Now that all gyms are closed and movement restricted, you can quickly lose motivation and give up on your fitness routine. But it’s not that bad- you can still exercise to burn calories and keep fit from the comfort of your home.

Yea, you may not be allowed to go outside for a jog or meet up with your fellow-gym lovers, but with some simple exercises, you can still achieve a great result without any gym equipment.

More so, the spread of the coronavirus requires us to keep an excellent immune system to reduce our chance of infection. And exercising is a great way to achieve this- it helps to strengthen your immune system.

Not only that, but regular exercising helps to improve your mental health, help you shed unwanted fat, and make you feel better about yourself during this uncertain time.

So instead of chilling out and watching Netflix all day, we have compiled a list of some simple exercises that you can incorporate into your daily schedule.

Without much ado, check out these simple exercise options:

1. Walking or Running

Despite the strict lockdown condition, brits are still allowed to leave their houses for limited purposes, including taking one exercise daily- such as cycling, walking, or running- alone just family. You can take advantage of this to stay fit and healthy.

However, it would help if you were careful to keep more than two meters away from people you come across. And don’t go out more than once in a day.

If you’re a smart-watch owner, you can track your steps to achieve the common goal of 10,000 steps-a-day. You can set a goal to accomplish this daily or adjust to suit your abilities. But the significant thing is to keep moving.

Remember, when you set goals and challenge yourself to achieve it daily, it helps to stimulate your mind as well as your muscles to work towards hitting the target.

2. Yoga

You might have tried some yoga poses before now but couldn’t stick to it. Well, now that you have all the time at home, you can enjoy lots of physical and mental benefits from yoga exercises.

Either as an expert or total beginner, you can follow Youtube Videos, or purchase a book on yoga poses to guide you. There are also apps you can try to enjoy a virtual yoga class. The moment you begin, you’ll start noticing significant changes in how you feel about yourself.

3. Skipping

Skipping is a fantastic cardio exercise that challenges a lot of group muscles and coordinates the movement of your hands and eyes. Although you need a little space for this exercise, it is a great way to get your heart rate up and burn some calories.

You don’t have to skip for too long if you are not hardcore. You can mix in repetitions and take moments of rest in between. Start by seeing how many skips you can before snagging yourself with the rope. And then move to beat the number each time.

4. Gardening

If you desire some fresh air while exercising, you can try keeping your garden looking pretty while you’re at home. The fantastic thing about gardening is that you workout without you realizing it.

Think of it, gardening involves lots of squatting, and that’s an excellent move for your bum. And while hoeing, you feel the impact on your abs.

More so, using a lawnmower engages your back muscles and whips them into shape. It also adds to your step count. So if you have a garden and it’s not in a proper way, now is an excellent time to work on it and enjoy lots of bodily and health benefits that comes with it.

5. Apps

When you type “Fitness App” on the app store, you will see lots of great options to use to keep fit. Many of these apps offer free trials for a month or a couple of weeks. So you can try more than one app and enjoy all the free trials without committing to pay any fee.

More so, these apps have options to choose your level of experience. You can choose the beginner level if you’re new to fitness exercising, so you don’t overwork yourself. You can also select your goal and what you enjoy doing.

Some great apps to try include:

  • Keelo
  • Daily Yoga
  • Tone It Up
  • 8fit
  • Seven
  • Butt Workout by 7M
  • Six Pack in 30 Days
  • Shreddy

6. Fitness DVDs

Many guided workout DVDs are available in the market, from Davina McCall to Zumba. You can use these DVDs as your virtual personal trainer, even at a lower cost.

If you have a large living room, you can try the dance workout DVD without the need for any equipment. But if you have a lot of stuff, you can try DVDs that incorporate any of them.

For example, if you have dumbbells at home, you can search on YouTube for a workout that requires the use of dumbbells.

7. Dancing

You can get your heart rate up and burn some calories by boogieing on the dance floor. Yea, as simple as dancing is, it works great wonders for your health and fitness.

The beauty of it is that you don’t have to feel forced. You can create a playlist of your favorite songs or stick to your favorite album. More so, you can watch some music videos to learn new routines.

The new app “TikTok” is one of the huge trends at the moment and it is full of users trying the same viral dance routines, mostly involving Foot Shake. You can subscribe to practice many exciting moves.

Closing Remark

You don’t need to wait until the end of the lockdown before getting back to your fitness routine. Even while indoors, you can try some simple exercises to keep fit and stay healthy. If you can’t do without a trainer, there are videos and apps with a virtual trainer. You can download any and stick to the workout plan.
